INTRODUCTION
AlMuslimaath is a voluntary, non governmental, charitable organization dedicated to spreading Islamic knowledge to Muslim women and girls in particular and to others in general, as well as to serve the society in uplifting the poor and the down trodden..
It was set up in 1990and have been serving the society ever since, Alhamdulillah!
The emphasis of it’s mission is on practicing Islam based on proper knowledge of Quran and Sunnah.
It has set up many projects to achieve this goal.
PROJECTS OF AL-MUSLIMAATH
1. EDUCATION
STUDY CIRCLES

ARABIC LANGUAGE
‘Do they not then earnestly seek to understand the Quran, or are their hearts locked up by them’ Al Quran 47:24
The only means to understand the Quran is to learn Arabic language.It is the bounden duty of every Muslim to strive to learn Arabic.
Arabic classes are conducted for children and adults. The adults are encouraged to sit for the government exams and get qualified in order to work asArabic teachers.

OTHER LANGUAGES
Spoken English, Sinhala and Tamil classes are arranged at the Al Muslimaath Office.

Tuition for any subject in any language can be arranged. Home visits also arranged. Qualified teachers at nominal prices.
SELF IMPROVEMENT
Training is given in leadership and public speaking. The writing talent among the Muslim women and girls are recognized and encouraged in all 3 languages.
ISLAMIC PUBLIC LIBRARY
Islamic books, video and audio cassettes on Islamic subjects are available at the Islamic public Library , for borrowing or for reference..
Donation of books are welcome.
A children’s library consisting of books, audios and videosis also available.
MAIYATH WASHING DEMONSTRATION
Lecture demonstration on maiyath washing and making Kafans for women are conducted whenever requested in
Readymade Kafans are available for sale at Al Muslimaath.

POTTERY PAINTING
Regular radio programs in all 3 languages are conducted by the members. Culture of Islam in English Medium on Fridays on Commercial Channel of SLBC has been conducted by AlMuslimaath for the last 10years. A quiz is included to encourage listeners to read the Quran. Free distribution of Quran and Translations of Quran in all three languages is carried out through these programs. Those who are interested in taking part are welcome. Contact the Office for details.
MEDIA WATCH
A media watch committee keeps any eye on articles which portray biased views on Islam in order to take necessary measures to combat them. Publication in newspaper as well as programs in radio and television are kept under surveillance.
NEWSPAPER ARTICLESS
Articles of social importance emphasizing Islamic principles are contributed to the Newspapers by members.
PUBLICATIONS
Leaflets and books are published by members on various Islamic subjectsSmall stories for children depicting Islamic values are being collected for printing.
2. COMMUNITY SERVICES
CHARITY
‘Who is he that who will loan to Allah a beautiful loan? For Allah will increase it manifold to his credit and he will have besides a liberal reward’.Al Quran 57:11
Orphans, widows, the poor and the sick are identified and sponsors found to assist them, by money or kind.Monetary assistance given monthly or as necessary. Interest free loans of small amounts available when guaranteed by a committee member.
New or nearly new clothes and household items, furniture, books etc. are collected by the office and distributed to the refugees and the poor.
SADAQATHUL JARIYA
Continuous charity by building Mosques, Madrasas, roads etc., can be organized through us. You may donate for your loved ones, living or deceased.
Wherever possible, necessary assistance is given for digging wells or laying down pipes for water supply.
Curtainsare put up in female wards of government hospitals to enable privacy for the women.
Ward number 18 in Maharagama cancer hospital was refurnished .
Recently a wheel chair and File cabinets were doanted. Drugs bought for the cancer patients whenever the hospital requests.
VISITING THE LONELY AND NEEDY
Widows in Iddah are visited whenever necessary, and their problems attended to.
The Muslim female inmates of Welikade prison are visited frequently for rehabilitation towards the straight path. Qurans, books, spectacles and Hijabs are distributed to them as and when necessary.
Patients in the hospitals arevisited to identify needy patients requiring long term medical treatment and assistance arranged.
MARRIAGE BUREAU
A free service of matching prospective marriage partners is available. Islamic weddings and choice of partners are encouraged.
The application forms can be obtained by sending a SAE to Al Muslimaath.
ASSISTANCE FOR MARRIAGES
Monetary assistance up to Rs. 1000/- is given towards conducting a simple marriage ceremony for the poor whenever possible. A set of bridal dress is available for borrowing at the Office. Donation of dresses, new or nearly new as well as household items and furniture arranged for poor brides.
JOB CENTER
A free service is available to find jobs for those in need is arranged.
Donations of sewing machines and cookers organized for the widows to earn a living rather than to depend on others.
RECYCLING
Used items are collected and regularly sent forthe refugees and distributed to the needy when they come asking for help.Nearly new clothes, furniture, household items and stationery are collected. Old newspapers collected and given to those who make bags out of them and earn a living by selling them.
BARAKATHSHOP
A shop is set up in the AlMuslimaath premises where food, clothing and any household items, new and nearly new items (after mending them) are sold in order to assist those who are poor, but would not like to take anything as charity and for the convenience of . those who would like to earn living by making short eats etc. They are encouraged to sell their products here.
INFORMATION, GUIDANCE & DA’WA

Those who wish to revert to Islam are given advice as well as financial assistance, if necessary. Recital of Quran and method of prayers are taught in our Office. Islamic books and Qurans are given free to them whenever necessary. Assistance given to obtaining Identity cards, changing names and getting married .
A 12 weeks intensive “Learning Islam course for the revert sisters” is available as an in house training course. Scholarships are available too..
HEALTH FOOD COMMITTEE
Information on Halal food available in the market are provided. Careful watch is kept on food in the market and the public informed of.
COUNSELING
Counseling is carried out confidentially by trained sisters for the women and girls and Islamic attitude encouraged in solving their problems..
HEALTH CAMPS
Free health camps are held with free distribution of medicines and spectacles, whenever requested.
EYE CARE
Limited number of free spectacles are issued for the poor, monthly. A low cost reading glasses scheme is also made available for older people at Rs. 250/- per pair.
Patients undergoing cataract surgery require Intra Ocular lenses. A scheme is set up for donation towards these lenses.Surgery is done at low cost by the Eye Surgeon attached to the organization.
Annually the Albasar foundationvisits with the help of Shabab organization, and does free cataract surgeries for the poor.
JANAZA SERVICE
Assistance is given to help people to get the bodies released form the hospital, wash the maiyath, find transport of the deceased, and to help the widow in Iddah. Sandaqs are donated to the Mosques.
3.YOUTH WING
The young girls gather on Saturdays to learn Quran and Sunnah as well as to learn other vocational training. They also engage in social service activities within the Shariah boundaries supervised by the elders.
4. RECREATION
Day outings for members arranged now and then along with Da’wa meetings at outstations.
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Simple, effective, garbage disposal using a Barrel is actively promoted. Fertilizer is produced from home refuse by the barrel. Environmental issues taken up by the organization to maintain clean surrounding.
Bio degradable polythene bags are made available for buying at Almuslimaath and the use of them promoted.
GARDEN SOCIETY
Exchange of flower plants, foliage, vegetable plants encouraged amongst those interested in gardening. Low cost gardening classes are arranged.Members visit beautiful home gardens.
LIAISON WITH OTHER ORGANISATIONS
Mutual discussions with other organizations carried out to enhance the services.Both Muslim and non-Muslim organizations are included.
REFUGEES
There are about 35,000 Muslims who were expelled from their homes about ten years back and are still in temporary settlements without proper living facilities.
A special scheme is set up to assist and rehabilitate the refugees all over the
HOUSING
A two-acre land is available for the refugees to settle down in Ismail puram. 10 perches each is given to those who would like to settle down there. Meanwhile assistance in given torefugees to put up houseswhen they acquire land or when their houses are damaged.
BUILDINGS
Whenever requested, buildings for pre-schools, madrasas, schools and libraries are put up by Al Muslimaath for the refugees.A single building is used as pre-school in the morning as madrasas in the afternoon and as a community centre during the weekends.
BASIC NEEDS
Food, medicine, nearly new clothes, house hold items, books etc., are collected and distributed to the refugees. Donation of any used or nearly new items are accepted at the Office
WATER SUPPLY
Water supply is scarce in Puttalam.Tube wells and common wells are put up, wherever necessary. Pipes have been laid down for certain camps.
CHARITY
Financial assistance is given to bright students from very poor families.Many teachers at pre-school and madrasas are paid monthly by Al Muslimaath
HEALTH CAMPS
Health camps with free drugs conducted at the camps whenever possible.
MOSQUES
Mosques are repaired or completed as and when possible.
MADRASATHUL MUSLIMAATH
‘The best amongst you are those who learn the Quran and teach it to others’ Prophet (Sal)
An after-school madrasa is run at 10,
Girls of any age and boys of less than 12 years are included.
The novel method of Iqra is introduced all over the island by Almuslimaath and the book to teach through this method is published by the office .Available for sale.
Quran recitalis taught according to thajweed method by trained Moulavias and teachers. Duas,Hifl and Islamic practices etc. are taught according to a three year plan syllabus. Hifl is part of the syllabus.
A study circle is held for them on Thursdays at the Madrasa at 4.30 p.m. till 6.00 p.m. at which Islamic way of life is taught through story telling.
AL-ASAFEERNURSERY
An Islamic Nursery is set up to enable the children to acquire Islamically oriented education of the highest quality at a reasonable price, with the assistance of WAMY .
English, Arabic, Tamil and Sinhala all four languages are introduced to the children. Quran recital is included in the curriculum.
We also ahve started an international School at this same site. It is hoped this nursery can be extended to become a fully fledged Islamic school, insha Allah..
UMMUL MU’MINEEN GIRLS’
A short term Madrasah for Girls after their O/L and A/L examination tot each them Quran, Sunnah and Fiqh along with home management in order to make them into well accomplished Islamic wives/mothers is run at affordable price. They are also taught public speaking and leadership so that they will be efficient Da'eeyas. Hostel facilities are available. At present a four month course is being conducted.
Darun Nusra - House of Benevolence
A home of those who need rehabilitation or a transition home, either being reverts or those with domestic problems or any other woman in need will be hosued and counselled.
ADULTS’ ISLAMIC
This is set up mainly for the new reverts where the reverts can stay in hostel with the Ummul Mu’mineen students and learn Islam including the daily rituals like prayers, recital of the Quran and Duas.
FUTURE PROJECTS IN THE OFFING:
Creche "The little Ones"
To set up a crèche for the convenience of the working mothers so that the children will be left in a totally Islamic surrounding while the mothers are at work. Though this will be a fee levying set up, helping the poor mothers to leave their children free is planned through sponsorship. Initially assistance will be needed to pay for a place and for the equipments. The initial cost estimated to be Rs.300,000/=
Drop in Center for the Elders
Islam does not encourage Elders' home where the older folks are dumped by the children. However it is a fact that the working couples do find it difficult to look after the parents while they are away at work since leaving them alone is not safe nowadays. We envisage putting up a place, probably along with the little ones' crèche, where facilities will be made available for the older generation to drop in and spend some time usefully in the company of their peers and also to spend the time usefully and productively.
Boys’ Center
So far AlMuslimaath has been concentrating on educating/ helping women and girls only. However it is essential that a similar arrangement is set up for the boys specially for those at their teens so that our youth can have place to spend some time gainfully, fun filled yet totally within the Islamic Shariah limits. AlMuslimaath intends to develop the Darul Muslimeen Hostel into such a center with the help of brothers who are willing to dedicate themselves for the cause of Allah.
Rehabilitation of street children: To work along with the World Vision which rehabilitates street children by providing ahome, schooling and counseling.
